UGC-NET June 2025: NTA Releases Detailed Exam Scheme, Pattern and Marking Policy
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially released the examination scheme, marking system, and key instructions for the UGC NET June 2025 cycle. As per the official notification, the exam will be conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode across multiple cities in India. Candidates aspiring to qualify for Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) posts must take note of the important changes and guidelines.
Pattern of Examination: Two Papers, No Break
The UGC NET June 2025 exam will consist of two papers, conducted in a single session without any break. Both papers will comprise Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) only.
- Paper I will carry 100 marks and include 50 questions aimed at assessing the teaching and research aptitude of the candidate. It will test abilities like reasoning, comprehension, divergent thinking, and general awareness.
- Paper II will be subject-specific, based on the discipline selected by the candidate, with 100 questions carrying a total of 200 marks.
The total duration of the exam will be 3 hours (180 minutes) and all questions are compulsory.

- Language medium must be selected during application and cannot be changed later.
Subject and Syllabus Availability
NTA has confirmed that the syllabus for all UGC NET subjects can be downloaded from the official UGC website: https://www.ugcnetonline.in/syllabus-new.php. However, NTA will not provide a hard copy of the syllabus to any candidate.
Medium of Examination
The question paper will be available in English and Hindi, except for language subjects. Candidates must select their preferred language medium while filling the online application form, as the option cannot be changed later. In case of any ambiguity in translation or construction of a question, the English version will be treated as final, and NTA’s decision will be binding.

Marking Scheme: No Negative Marking
NTA has also issued a clear marking scheme for UGC NET June 2025:
- Each correct answer will fetch 2 marks.
- No negative marking for incorrect responses.
- No marks will be awarded for unanswered or marked-for-review questions.
- In case a question is found to be incorrect or ambiguous, only those candidates who attempted the question and selected one of the correct answers will be awarded full marks.
- If a question is dropped due to a technical or human error, 2 marks will be given to only those candidates who attempted it.
Given the absence of negative marking, candidates are strongly encouraged to attempt all questions and choose the most appropriate answer.
