Major Reform in Semester System: Internal Exams to Be Conducted Twice Instead of Thrice
Academic Council Approves Major Examination Reform
Prayagraj: The University of Allahabad has introduced a significant change in its semester system by reducing the number of internal examinations from three to two. This decision was taken during the Academic Council meeting held at North Hall on Friday, under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sangeeta Srivastava.
The council approved the proposal put forth by the examination committee, which recommended conducting only two internal assessments for all semester-based courses instead of the previous three.
Internal Exams to Be Worth 40 Marks
Under the revised system, these internal examinations will carry a total of 40 marks and will be conducted in a written format. The university administration has assured that the schedule for these exams will be officially announced by the Controller of Examinations in the academic calendar.
Objective Behind the Change
The decision to reduce the number of internal exams was taken to streamline the evaluation process and reduce the academic burden on students. The university believes that two well-structured internal assessments will be more effective in assessing students’ progress while ensuring better engagement in learning.
Implementation and Future Steps
With the Academic Council’s approval, this reform will be implemented across all semester-based programs from the upcoming academic session. The university administration will soon release detailed guidelines regarding the format and scheduling of these examinations.
This move aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasizes a more flexible and student-friendly assessment system. The change is expected to enhance the quality of education and make the internal evaluation process more efficient at Allahabad University.
