PhD Admissions at DDU Gorakhpur University: 2769 Registrations for 1171 Seats in 41 Subjects

 


Gorakhpur: The admission process for PhD programs at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University (DDU) and its affiliated colleges for the 2024-25 session has witnessed an overwhelming response from candidates. As of now, 2,769 candidates have registered for 1,171 available seats across 41 subjects. The last date for submitting applications is March 5, 2025, and with three days remaining, 1,689 applicants have already completed the payment of the entrance examination fee.

PhD Entrance Exam (RET) Scheduled for March 2025

The university has initiated the application process for the Research Eligibility Test (RET), which is mandatory for PhD admissions. The entrance examination is expected to be held in the last week of March 2025. Due to the delay in the academic session, the university administration is making efforts to expedite the admission process so that the 2025-26 PhD admissions can commence on time.

Subjects with Maximum Applications

Among the 41 disciplines, Hindi has received the highest number of applications. A total of 312 candidates have registered for 92 seats in the Hindi department, with 186 applicants completing the entrance exam fee payment. Other subjects that have received a high number of registrations include:

  • Education – 271 registrations
  • Political Science – 219 registrations
  • Commerce – 175 registrations
  • Sociology – 170 registrations
  • Law – 147 registrations
  • Geography – 135 registrations
  • Medieval & Modern History – 116 registrations
  • English – 113 registrations
  • Botany – 105 registrations

According to university officials, there has been a sudden surge of 300 applications within the last 24 hours, and the number is expected to rise significantly before the deadline.

Foreign Applicants Also Show Interest

The PhD admission process at DDU Gorakhpur University has also attracted international students. So far, 23 candidates from various countries, including the USA, have submitted applications. These international applicants will be exempted from the entrance test and will be granted admission under the Supernumerary Quota.

University’s Commitment to Timely Admissions

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Poonam Tandon, expressed confidence that the university will complete the admission process efficiently to ensure that the next academic session remains on schedule.

"More than 2,700 candidates have already registered for 1,171 PhD seats. Within the last 24 hours, we have received 300 new applications. We expect a significant increase in registrations by the deadline," said Prof. Tandon.

With a high demand for PhD seats across multiple disciplines and a large number of applicants competing for limited slots, the DDU Gorakhpur PhD entrance exam (RET) 2025 is expected to be highly competitive. Candidates are advised to complete their registrations before the March 5 deadline to secure their chance of admission.
