High Enthusiasm for Ph.D. Admissions at Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University
Over 2,700 Candidates Register for 1,171 Ph.D. Seats; Application Deadline Nears
Gorakhpur: The admission process for Ph.D. programs at Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University (DDU) and its affiliated colleges for the academic session 2024-25 has witnessed a massive response from aspiring research scholars. With 41 subjects and 1,171 available seats, the application deadline is set for March 5, 2024.
As of three days before the deadline, a total of 2,769 candidates have registered for the Research Eligibility Test (RET). Out of these, 1,689 applicants have successfully submitted their examination fee, indicating their commitment to pursuing research studies.
Ph.D. Entrance Exam Expected in Late March
The university is actively processing applications for the Research Eligibility Test (RET), which is tentatively scheduled for the last week of March 2024. Due to a delayed academic session, the administration aims to conduct the exam as soon as possible and grant admissions to Pre-Ph.D. programs. The objective is to ensure that the admission process for the 2025-26 session begins on time without further delays.
Hindi Subject Leads in Ph.D. Applications
Among the 41 subjects, Hindi has received the highest number of applications. A total of 312 candidates have registered for 92 available seats in Hindi, with 186 applicants already paying the exam fee. Other subjects with significant applications include:
- Education – 271 applicants
- Political Science – 219 applicants
- Commerce – 175 applicants
- Sociology – 170 applicants
- Law – 147 applicants
- Geography – 135 applicants
- Medieval & Modern History – 116 applicants
- English – 113 applicants
- Botany – 105 applicants
Rising Number of Applicants as Deadline Approaches
According to Professor Poonam Tandon, Vice-Chancellor of DDU, the university has seen a significant rise in applications in recent days. Within the last 24 hours, 300 new applicants have registered. Officials anticipate a further increase in applications as the March 5 deadline approaches.
"More than 2,700 candidates have already registered for 1,171 Ph.D. seats. We expect a surge in applications in the final days before the deadline," said Vice-Chancellor Prof. Poonam Tandon.
International Students Show Interest in Ph.D. Admissions
Apart from Indian applicants, the university has also received 23 applications from international students. Candidates from the United States and other countries have shown interest in pursuing research at DDU.
Unlike domestic candidates, foreign students are exempted from the entrance test. They will be granted admission under the Supernumerary Quota, ensuring a direct entry into the Ph.D. program without competing through the Research Eligibility Test (RET).
With the growing number of applicants and high competition for limited seats, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University is set to conduct a rigorous selection process. The upcoming Ph.D. entrance examination in March will determine the candidates eligible for research studies, marking the next step in their academic journey.
