Invited talk on Clinical application of Bacteriophages in the Department of Botany, University of Allahabad

The indiscriminate use of antibiotics in medicine leads to antibiotic resistance in pathogenic bacterial species. Scientific reports show highly virulent bacterial species variants that are resistant to all the available antibiotics. To overcome such antibiotic resistance, Scientists are working on using alternative bacteriophage therapy.
Prof. Gopal Nath, Dean (Research), Department of Microbiology, Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU, Varanasi, is a founding and leading researcher in the clinical application of bacteriophage in India and the world. He showed how even chronic cases of bacterial infections in their last stage were cured with the application of bacteriophage. Even bacteriophage helps in maintaining the water quality of rivers. Promising clinical results to envisage further research and their medical application for science and society. All faculty members, research students, and department M.Sc. students attended the talk. The Head of the Department, Prof. Satya Narain, chaired the session. Dr. Sanjay Kr. Kewat introduced the esteemed speaker to the audience, while Dr. Dinesh Kr. Yadav proposed the vote of thanks

इलाहाबाद विश्वविद्यालय, वनस्पति-विज्ञान विभाग में बैक्टीरियोफेज के नैदानिक अनुप्रयोग पर आमंत्रित वार्ता
चिकित्सा क्षेत्र में एंटीबायोटिक्स के अंधाधुंध उपयोग के कारण रोगजनक बैक्टीरिया प्रजातियों में एंटीबायोटिक प्रतिरोध उत्पन्न हो गया है। यहां तक कि वैज्ञानिक रिपोर्ट्स में ऐसी अत्यधिक विषाणुजनित बैक्टीरिया प्रजातियों के प्रकार दिखाए गए हैं, जो सभी उपलब्ध एंटीबायोटिक्स के प्रति प्रतिरोधी हैं। ऐसे एंटीबायोटिक प्रतिरोध को दूर करने के लिए, वैज्ञानिक बैक्टीरियोफेज थेरेपी के विकल्प पर काम कर रहे हैं।
प्रो. गोपाल नाथ, डीन (अनुसंधान), सूक्ष्मजीव विज्ञान विभाग, इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ मेडिकल साइंसेज, बीएचयू, वाराणसी, भारत में बैक्टीरियोफेज के नैदानिक अनुप्रयोग के संस्थापक और अग्रणी शोधकर्ता हैं। उन्होंने दिखाया कि कैसे बैक्टीरियल संक्रमण के पुराने मामले, जो अपने अंतिम चरण में थे, बैक्टीरियोफेज के उपयोग से ठीक हो गए। यहां तक कि बैक्टीरियोफेज नदियों के पानी की गुणवत्ता को बनाए रखने में भी मदद करता है। विज्ञान और समाज के लिए आगे के अनुसंधान और उनके चिकित्सीय अनुप्रयोग के लिए यह आशाजनक नैदानिक परिणाम प्रदान करता है।
इस वार्ता में विभाग के सभी संकाय सदस्यों, शोधार्थियों और एम.एससी. के छात्रों ने भाग लिया। सत्र की अध्यक्षता विभागाध्यक्ष प्रो. सत्य नारायण ने की। डॉ. संजय कुमार केवट ने वक्ता का परिचय दर्शकों से करवाया, जबकि डॉ. दिनेश कुमार यादव ने धन्यवाद प्रस्ताव प्रस्तुत किया।
