‘Govt snatched scholarships for SC, ST, OBC & other minorities,’ says Congress president Kharge

Govt Snatched Scholarships for SC, ST, OBC & Other Minorities, Says Congress President Kharge

Congress Accuses Government of Withholding Scholarships for Marginalized Communities

In a scathing attack on the Narendra Modi-led government, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge accused the government of "snatching" scholarships that were meant for students from Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), and other minority communities. Kharge expressed his concerns during a press conference, claiming that the government’s actions were detrimental to the educational prospects of these marginalized groups.

Kharge Slams Government for Failing to Uphold Social Justice

Kharge, while addressing the media, highlighted that scholarships are a critical tool for enabling students from disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue higher education. He alleged that the central government had not only reduced the funds allocated for these scholarships but had also been slow in disbursing the existing ones, thus obstructing the academic progress of many students.

He went on to accuse the government of undermining social justice and failing to honor its commitments to the welfare of marginalized sections of society. “The BJP government has continuously worked against the interests of Dalits, tribals, backward classes, and minorities by depriving them of the scholarships that were their right,” said Kharge.

Govt’s Denial and the Demand for Immediate Action

The Congress president urged the government to immediately release the pending scholarships and take necessary steps to ensure that students from these communities receive the financial support they are entitled to. He stressed the importance of such initiatives in creating a level playing field in education and providing equal opportunities for all.

Kharge also raised concerns about the long-term impact on these students' futures if the situation continued, warning that the government’s inaction could further deepen the socio-economic divide in the country. He called upon the Modi government to fulfill its promises made to the marginalized communities and to prioritize their educational needs.

Opposition Unity in Defending Students’ Rights

The Congress President’s remarks have sparked widespread criticism of the government, with several opposition leaders backing Kharge’s allegations. Other political figures from the opposition have joined the call for the immediate release of the scholarships and have demanded a parliamentary debate on the issue. The debate over the matter is expected to intensify as students and civil society groups mobilize to highlight the adverse effects of this alleged policy lapse.

A Rising Concern for Students and Families

Students from SC, ST, OBC, and minority communities have expressed growing frustration over the delays in receiving their scholarships, with many facing difficulties in continuing their education without financial support. Several students have also taken to social media platforms to share their struggles, amplifying the issue across the nation.

As the controversy unfolds, it remains to be seen whether the government will respond to the growing public outcry and address the concerns raised by the Congress and other political opponents.
