Five-day GIAN course on 2- D Materials for Future Microelectronics at the University of Allahabad

A five-day GIAN course on 2- D Materials for Future Microelectronics was inaugurated on 17th Feb 2025 at 9:30 AM by the Chief Guest of the event Prof. S.I. Rizwi, Dean Research and Development, University of Allahabad at Prof. S.N. Ghosh Auditorium, Department of Electronics and Communication, J.K. Institute of Applied Physics and Technology, University of Allahabad.

The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Lucky Agarwal, GIAN Course Coordinator &Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication, who welcomed the dignitaries for the inauguration of the course, further he talked about, the Innovation and Research on 2- D Materials for Future Microelectronics, properties of 2-D Materials and its applications in the diverse fields. He also mentioned the recent developments and future scope of graphene and transition elements in 2-D Materials.

Dr. Bhumika R. Kar, Local GIAN Coordinator, University of Allahabad, mentioned, that the GIAN (Global Initiative of Academic Networks) course which was started in 2015 by the Ministry of Education, Government of India is an amazing initiative to encourage scientists and entrepreneurs in the fields of science and technology across all the National Institutes including IITs, NITs, IIITs and Central Universities of India. It’s a wonderful platform through which we can impart knowledge to young minds.

Prof. Ashish Khare, Hon’ble Registrar of the University of Allahabad, threw some light on the commitment of the University of Allahabad towards its contribution to the technological development in India. He further talked about the unique single electron layer structure of the 2-D Materials, and its applications in various fields of microelectronics such as the modern manufacturing of transistors, Optoelectronic and Neuromorphic materials.

Prof. Bechan Sharma, Dean Faculty of Science, University of Allahabad, encouraged the participants to learn and interact with the speaker and try to take the most out of the GIAN course. He said that interacting and raising questions will make the students think of new ideas.

Prof. Saptarshi Das, Professor, Pennsylvania State University and the Speaker of the course, gave deep insights about the subjects of his domain including Quantum Computing, Sensing, Microelectronics developments, and the importance of the same for the next generation, stating that the hardware technology is going to be the future of technological development in India.

Prof. S.I. Rizvi, Dean of Research and Development, University of Allahabad, discussed the evolution of mankind. Also, he said, 2-D Materials are a subject of interdisciplinary study and not only central to electronics. He mentioned the possibilities of its use in the manufacturing of stents for cardio-vascular treatments in medical science.
