Major CUET 2025 Changes
University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced significant changes to the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for Undergraduates (UG) in 2025. These changes aim to enhance the efficiency and standardization of the examination process. Here are the major updates:
Transition to Computer-Based Testing (CBT): One of the most notable changes is the exclusive shift to Computer-Based Testing (CBT). Unlike previous years, where a hybrid format was used, this year’s exam will be conducted solely online. This decision is intended to enhance reliability and security in the examination process, addressing logistical issues encountered in earlier editions.
Reduced Number of Subjects: The total number of subjects available for selection has been reduced from 63 to 37. Candidates will now be allowed to choose up to five subjects instead of six. This reduction aims to simplify the exam structure and minimize logistical complexities during the assessment.
Flexible Subject Selection: Candidates will have greater flexibility in subject choice. They can now select subjects that they did not study in Class 12, breaking down rigid disciplinary boundaries. This change is designed to foster a more inclusive educational environment.
Standardized Exam Duration and Format: The exam duration has been standardized to 60 minutes for all subjects, ensuring uniformity across the board. Previously, different subjects had varying time limits ranging from 45 to 60 minutes. Additionally, all questions will now be compulsory, eliminating any optional questions. The exam will consist of 50 mandatory questions, with a total score of 250 marks; candidates will receive five points for correct answers and incur a penalty of one point for incorrect ones.
Removal of Certain Subjects: Several subjects have been eliminated from CUET UG 2025, including Fashion Studies, Tourism Studies, Legal Studies, Teaching Aptitude, and Engineering Graphics. Admission for these areas will now rely on scores from the General Aptitude Test, which has replaced the previous General Test format.
