World Bank Advocacy Competition 2025: Submit your application by January 24.

Applications are invited for the World Bank Advocacy Contest 2025. The deadline for applications is January 24, 2025.

About the Organisation

The World Bank operates as a global cooperative, bringing together 189 member countries as its shareholders. These nations are represented by the Board of Governors, a decision-making body composed typically of each country's minister of finance or development. This distinguished group gathers annually at the World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund’s Annual Meetings to shape the organization’s policies and steer its mission of fostering sustainable global development.

About the Contest

As outlined by the ICN, competition advocacy encompasses initiatives that foster a competitive environment through non-enforcement methods. This includes building collaborative relationships with government bodies, raising public awareness of the advantages of competition, and addressing or eliminating policies and regulations that hinder competition.

The Organization seek success stories from competition agencies, public institutions, or civil society organizations that showcase measurable outcomes of competition advocacy across the following four themes:

1. Strengthening resilient and competitive value chains to drive private investment, job creation, and consumer welfare.

2. Incorporating competition principles into policies governing state-owned enterprises (SOEs), privatization efforts, and public-private partnerships.

3. Improving public procurement processes and combating bid-rigging to generate government cost savings.

4. Promoting competition through constructive public-private dialogue.

Eligibility

1. Competition agencies, sector regulators and other government bodies and non-governmental organizations promoting competition policy are welcome to apply.

2. If you are not a member of the ICN, you should reach out to the ICN member in your jurisdiction to inform them about your intention to participate in the contest. A list of all ICN members is available here. Joint submissions from ICN members and government bodies or non-governmental organizations are encouraged.

3. To participate, candidates must complete the online survey.

Selection Process

Submissions will undergo a rigorous assessment of the following criteria:

1. Relevance of the competition issue tackled by the initiative;

2. Success of the advocacy activity - results achieved;

3. Impact and effects on markets, spillover effects and lessons learned;

4. Advocacy strategy - creativity and originality, cooperation mechanisms deployed.

An independent panel will review the submissions and select the top stories. Winning applicants will be invited to present their stories at a joint ICN-World Bank Group event.

Winners and honorable mentions will be announced in advance of the 2025 ICN Annual Conference.
