1. Flexibility in Subject Specialization
Candidates qualifying NET/SET can now be appointed in any subject, irrespective of their undergraduate or postgraduate specialization. Their Ph.D. subject will be treated as their primary specialty.
2. Promotion of Indian Languages
The draft emphasizes promoting Indian languages in academic publications, book chapters, and academic degrees to enrich regional and cultural representation.
3. Transparent Recruitment and Promotion
Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) will adopt transparent shortlisting methods for direct recruitment and promotion of academic staff.
4. Inclusion of 'Notable Contributions'
A novel criterion, "Notable Contributions," has been introduced to assess candidates' eligibility for appointments and promotions.
5. Separate Pathway for Artists
To attract talents from fields such as Yoga, Music, Visual Arts, Performing Arts, and other traditional disciplines, a specialized recruitment pathway has been designed.
6. Opportunities for Sportspersons
Accomplished sportspersons, including those with disabilities, will have dedicated pathways to join the teaching profession, fostering diversity and inclusivity.
7. Revised Vice-Chancellor Selection Process
The process for appointing Vice-Chancellors has been revised to ensure greater transparency and efficiency.
A Progressive Step Forward
The 2025 regulations replace the 2018 framework, introducing a flexible and inclusive approach to appointing academic professionals. The draft is available for public feedback on the UGC website, aiming to finalize reforms that support diverse talent and strengthen educational standards across the nation.
