NEET UG 2025: NTA Releases Revised Exam Pattern, No More Optional Questions in NEET UG

NEET UG 2025: The National Testing Agency (NTA) is liable for the exam patterns of the NEET UG exam. Now the NTA has released crucial updates about the pattern of the question paper and duration of the examination for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG). According to the official notification released by NTA, the exam will revert to its pre-COVID format in which there have been no optional questions or additional time provided to the candidate. From this year, candidates will no longer have non-mandatory questions or extra time introduced during COVID-19, as the exam returns to its pre-COVID format.

The format of the question paper for the NEET UG 2025 is as follows:

NEET UG 2025: Revised Exam Pattern

The revised exam pattern of the NEET UG 2025 is mentioned below:


1. Changes in the total number of questions 

According to the new NEET 2025 exam pattern, the total number of questions in NEET 2025 has been reduced to 180 questions. As per the NEET chapterwise weightage, there will be 45 questions from each subject: Physics, Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology. In previous years, NEET consisted of 200 multiple-choice questions divided into three subjects (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology).


2. Changes in Time Duration

In the latest NEET UG exam pattern, 2025, the total period of the NEET UG 2025 exam has also changed. The NEET UG exam is going to be held for 3 hours instead of 3 hours and 20 minutes. This reduction in NEET UG 2025 exam duration has occurred mainly because of the removal of the optional questions and the reduction of the total questions


3. Removal of section B from each subject

The most important change that has taken place in the NEET UG 2025 exam pattern is the Deletion of section B from every subject (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology) Earlier there used to be two sections—Section A and Section B. 35 questions were used to be asked from section A, while 15 questions were used to be asked from section B, with candidates having an option to answer any 10 questions. Now, as per the Revised pattern by NTA, there will be no section B.
