The University of Allahabad
The University of Allahabad, fondly known as the "Oxford of the East," is among the oldest and most distinguished universities in India. Established on 23rd September 1887 through Act XVIII, it holds a pivotal place in the history of Indian education. The University was founded by Sir William Muir, the then Lieutenant Governor of the United Provinces. In 1921, with the enactment of the University of Allahabad Act, the Muir Central College was integrated into the University.
Designated as a 'premier institution' by the Government of Uttar Pradesh in 1992, the University regained its Central University status in 2005 and was also recognized as an Institution of National Importance. Situated in Prayagraj, it is celebrated for its rich academic heritage, diverse cultural traditions, and iconic architecture.
Over the years, the University has nurtured countless eminent personalities, including former Presidents of India, Bharat Ratna awardees, and other luminaries from various fields. Notable alumni include Dr. Zakir Hussain and Shri Shankar Dayal Sharma, former Presidents of India; Shri V.P. Singh and Shri Chandra Shekhar, former Prime Ministers of India; Shri Ranganath Misra, former Chief Justice of India; Justice Vikram Nath of the Supreme Court; Govind Ballabh Pant, former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh; and Pt. Madan Mohan Malviya, founder of Banaras Hindu University.
The University is also renowned for its contributions to literature, with celebrated writers and poets such as Shri Harivansh Rai Bachchan, Mahadevi Verma, Shri S.R. Faruqui, Shri Bhagwati Charan Verma, and Shri Doodhnath Singh among its illustrious alumni.
With the motto ‘Quot Rami Tot Arbores’ (As Many Branches, So Many Trees), the University inspires its students to pursue diverse academic disciplines and global excellence. The Faculty of Law
The Faculty of Law, University of Allahabad, is one of India's oldest and most prestigious law schools, with roots dating back to the 19th century. Renowned for its rich heritage, the Faculty has played a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of legal education in the country. Initially housed in the historic Muir College until 1872, the Law Department transitioned to its dedicated premises in 1910, adjacent to the iconic Senate Hall. As the demand for advanced facilities grew, a new building with a modern library and teaching infrastructure was inaugurated in 1965, marking a significant chapter in the Faculty's legacy.
The Faculty takes immense pride in its distinguished alumni, many of whom have left an indelible mark on India's legal and judicial systems. Prominent figures include Sir Tej Bahadur Sapru, Dr. Kailash Nath Katju, and Justice Wali Ullah, who earned their LL.D. degrees as regular candidates. The Faculty has also produced several Chief Justices of India, such as Justice Ranganath Mishra, Justice K.N. Singh, Justice V.N. Khare, Justice R.S. Pathak, Justice M.H. Beg, Justice J.S. Verma, and Justice Mohammad Hidayatullah. Other notable alumni include Justice Vashishtha Bhargava, Justice Daya Saran Sinha, Shri Motilal Nehru, and Syed Wazir Hasan, each celebrated for their contributions to law and society.

The Moot Court Society
Mooting is a vital skill for every aspiring law student, and the Moot Court Society of the Faculty of Law, University of Allahabad, serves as a cornerstone for developing this expertise. This vibrant, student-driven body operates under the guidance of esteemed professors and a dedicated convenor. Established with the aim of fostering advocacy skills and legal knowledge, the Society provides a dynamic platform for students to refine their research, drafting, and oral advocacy abilities.
The Moot Court Society oversees various moot-related activities, including Intra-Faculty and National Moot Court Competitions, Workshops, Training Sessions, Guest Lectures, and other initiatives that shape students into skilled legal professionals. These activities offer participants practical exposure to courtroom procedures, legal argumentation, and case analysis, equipping them for real-world legal challenges.
To further support students, the Society has established two specialized committees:
1. Memorial Evaluation Committee
2. Oral Advocacy Committee
These committees, comprising experienced senior students and alumni, assist new participants by addressing queries, conducting workshops, and organizing mock sessions to enhance their preparations.
Over the years, the Moot Court Society has been instrumental in preparing students to excel in prestigious national and international moot court competitions.
