Supreme Court Invites Applications for Law Clerk-cum-Research Associates

The Supreme Court of India has announced an opportunity for law graduates to apply for the position of Law Clerk-cum-Research Associate on a short-term contractual basis for the term 2025-2026. Around 90 positions are available, offering a consolidated monthly remuneration of ₹80,000. The online application process opens on January 14, 2025, and closes on February 7, 2025, at 11:55 PM.



Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B. or Integrated Law) from a recognized institution approved by the Bar Council of India. Final-year students of three-year and five-year law programs may also apply, provided they complete their degree before commencing the assignment. Applicants should possess strong research, analytical, and computer skills, including familiarity with legal databases such as SCC Online, Manupatra, and Westlaw.

The age limit for applicants is between 20 and 32 years as of February 7, 2025.

Selection Process

The recruitment will consist of three stages:

1. Part I: A multiple-choice examination testing legal knowledge and comprehension skills.

2. Part II: A subjective written examination assessing writing and analytical abilities.

3. Part III: An interview for shortlisted candidates.

The written examination will take place on March 9, 2025, across 23 cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata. Part I will be conducted online, while Part II will require handwritten answers.

Important Instructions

Candidates should ensure they meet all eligibility criteria before applying. Admit cards will be issued based on the information provided in the application, but selection will remain subject to verification of credentials. Applicants should retain their application number for future reference.

Model answer keys for the multiple-choice test will be released on March 10, 2025, and candidates can raise objections until March 11, 2025, by paying a fee of ₹100 per question.

General Conditions

This contractual role does not offer regular employment or a guarantee of continuation. Law Clerks are required to work full-time, including during holidays, if necessary. They are also prohibited from practicing as advocates during the assignment.

The Supreme Court reserves the right to modify or cancel the selection process without prior notice.
