Delhi CM Atishi Faces Twin FIRs: Govt Vehicle Misuse and AI-Generated Modi Photo Controversy

In a dramatic turn of events, Delhi Chief Minister and AAP leader Atishi is now battling two FIRs ahead of the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections on February 5. The first FIR, filed at Govindpuri police station, accuses Atishi of violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by using a government vehicle for political campaigning. The second FIR, registered at another station, pertains to the alleged use of an AI-generated image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in her campaign materials, raising legal and ethical concerns.

FIR 1: Misuse of Government Vehicle

The first FIR, filed under Section 223(a) of the BNS, claims that a vehicle belonging to the Public Works Department (PWD) under the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) was used for election purposes. A complaint from the District Election Officer, South-East Delhi, prompted this action, highlighting that such misuse of government resources is prohibited during elections.

Atishi responded to the allegations by questioning the Election Commission's impartiality, accusing BJP leader Parvesh Verma of distributing cash and gifts during events. “Why is the EC silent on Parvesh Verma's Rs 1,100 cash handouts and bedsheet distribution? Is there pressure on them? Fair elections must be ensured,” she said.

FIR 2: AI-Generated Modi Photo Sparks Controversy

The second FIR accuses Atishi of using an AI-generated image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in her campaign, potentially breaching copyright and defamation laws. The use of manipulated images in political campaigns is under strict scrutiny, and this incident has sparked a heated debate about ethical boundaries in digital campaigning.

Political Context

Atishi, who succeeded Arvind Kejriwal as Chief Minister in September 2024, is contesting the Kalkaji seat against BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri and Congress' Alka Lamba. The upcoming polls will serve as a referendum on her leadership and AAP’s governance.

The twin FIRs have escalated tensions in the already heated Delhi election atmosphere. With keywords like "Delhi CM FIR," "AI Modi photo controversy," and "AAP MCC violation," the cases are trending across news platforms. These allegations pose significant challenges to AAP’s campaign narrative and raise crucial questions about ethics in electioneering.
