About Altus Disputatio

Altus Disputatio is NUALS’ signature, patented debate competition that attracts participants from premier law institutions across India. Renowned for its innovative Devil’s Cross format, the event blends traditional parliamentary debating with surprise elements, pushing debaters to showcase quick thinking, adaptability, and creativity.

The competition emphasizes Devil’s Advocacy, encouraging participants to adopt bold, unconventional perspectives and question established norms.

Format

Altus Disputatio features three exciting rounds:

Expository Round: Teams interpret and present a prompt within one minute, creating a compelling motion for debate.
Elocution Round: The winning motion from the Expository round is debated using a British Parliamentary format with a twist—The Devil’s Cross.
Entrap Round: Intense questioning from inquisitors tests the depth of each team’s arguments.

Teams will compete in pools of 4, with the top performers advancing to the Semi-Finals and Finals.
