CUET-UG, PG set to undergo changes in 2025, revised norms to be announced soon: UGC chief
The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate courses is set to undergo several changes in the 2025 edition following a review by an expert panel, according to UGC Chairman Jagadesh Kumar.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) had constituted an expert committee to review the conduct of CUET-UG and PG.
"Based on feedback from past years, it is also essential to continuously improve the examination process to provide a better, more efficient and conducive environment for students taking CUET. In this spirit, the UGC has constituted an expert committee to review the conduct of CUET-UG and CUET-PG for 2025," Mr. Kumar told PTI.
"The committee has examined various aspects of the test, such as its structure, number of papers, duration of test papers, syllabus alignment and operational logistics. The commission considered these recommendations in a recent meeting," he added.
The UGC chief informed that the commission will soon release a draft proposal detailing the revised guidelines for conducting CUET-UG and CUET-PG 2025, inviting feedback and suggestions from students, parents, teachers and institutions.

IMPROVEMENTS IN CUET STRUCTURE AND LOGISTICS
Kumar explained that the review aims to create a more student-friendly experience. "Based on feedback from past years, it is essential to improve the exam process for a more efficient and conducive environment," he said.
The UGC committee has already submitted its recommendations, which were discussed in a recent meeting. Revised guidelines for CUET 2025 will soon be released in draft form, inviting feedback from students, parents, teachers, and institutions.
CUET-UG has faced hurdles since its introduction in 2022, including technical glitches and logistical challenges. In its first year, the need to normalise scores due to multiple exam shifts raised concerns.
The hybrid mode introduced in 2024 also faced criticism after exams were abruptly cancelled in Delhi.
The upcoming changes are expected to address these recurring issues while improving operational logistics. Stakeholders will soon get the opportunity to review and suggest modifications to the draft guidelines.
With CUET becoming a key pathway for university admissions, these updates are aimed at ensuring fairness and efficiency for students across the country.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) is expected to release the CUET-PG 2025 exam dates soon on their official website. These dates are crucial for candidates planning to appear for the Common University Entrance Test for Postgraduate (CUET-PG) to secure admission to various postgraduate programs in central universities for the 2025-26 academic session.
Typically, the CUET-PG exam dates are announced between December and January. For instance, the CUET PG 2024 exam took place from March 11 to March 28, 2024. While the exam dates may change, the CUET PG 2025 exam is expected to follow a similar pattern and structure. Historically, many institutes in India have increasingly relied on CUET scores for admissions into postgraduate programmes.
In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of participants in the CUET-PG exam, with many candidates eagerly awaiting the official schedule to better plan their preparation based on past trends.
