Why Are Students Missing from Allahabad University Convocation?

Allahabad University is facing criticism from the Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha (SCS) for organizing its convocation ceremony on November 27 without the participation of students. The organization has issued a statement condemning the decision, stating that excluding students from the ceremony undermines their role in the university’s academic achievements.

The SCS also raised objections to the invitation extended to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath as the chief guest, describing him as a figure with "communal undertones" and highlighting his affiliation with the Nath sect. They argued that inviting such a personality goes against the ethos and secular values of the institution, often referred to as the "Oxford of the East."

Call for Depoliticization of Campus

The group emphasized the need to maintain peace and dignity on the campus and urged the university administration to avoid politicization of academic events. They demanded that the convocation ceremony include active participation of students and respect the institution's traditions.

“If the program goes ahead in its current form, the student community will strongly oppose it,” warned the SCS in its statement.

The controversy highlights growing tensions over the administration’s decisions and the perceived politicization of educational institutions.

 

बगैर छात्र-छात्राओं के कैसा दीक्षांत

समाजवादी छात्र सभा ने इलाहाबाद विश्वविद्यालय में छात्र-छात्राओं के बगैर 27 नवंबर को दीक्षांत समारोह कराने का विरोध किया है। संगठन की तरफ से जारी विज्ञप्ति में कहा गया है कि मुख्य अतिथि के तौर पर एक सांप्रदायिक तेवर से जाने जाने वाले, नाथ संप्रदाय के मठाधीश योगी आदित्य नाथ को दीक्षांत समारोह में मंच पर बुलोन को समूचा छात्र समुदाय मंजूर नहीं करेगा। पूरब का ऑक्सफोर्ड कहे जाने वाला इलाहाबाद केंद्रीय विश्वविद्यालय की गरिमा का ख्याल रखते हुए विश्वविद्यालय परिसर में शांति का माहौल बनाए रखने के लिए कैंपस केराजनीतिकरण को रोका जाना चाहिए। इसके बाद भी प्रोग्राम होता है तो छात्र समुदाय इसका पुरजोर विरोध करेगा।
