Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has officially launched its PhD admissions for the 2024 academic year, inviting candidates to apply online at ignouadm.samarth.edu.in.
Eligibility Requirements for IGNOU PhD Admissions 2024
A one-year (two-semester) master’s degree after a four-year (eight-semester) bachelor’s degree, or
A two-year (four-semester) master’s degree after a three-year bachelor’s degree, or
An equivalent master’s qualification recognised by a statutory regulatory body, with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks or equivalent grade.
Candidates who have completed their qualifications from recognised foreign institutions can also apply.
Applicants holding valid UGC NET scores, particularly those with Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) or valid UGC NET scores for 2024, are eligible provided they meet the University Grants Commission (UGC) PhD regulations, updated in 2022.
MPhil holders with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks are also considered eligible.

Application Fee and Selection Process
The online application fee is set at INR 1000. For final selection, IGNOU will prepare a combined merit list, prioritising JRF holders and candidates with valid UGC NET scores under specified categories.
Notably, 5% of seats are reserved for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) with at least 40% disability.
Candidates with JRF certification will be called for an interview that will carry complete weightage in the final assessment.
