Violence Breaks Out at Allahabad University Hostels, Four Students Suspended for Instigating Clash

Violence Spills onto University Premises, Leading to Chaos and Injuries

Allahabad University saw intense clashes on Friday between students of two hostels, Holland Hall and KPUC, which escalated into violent confrontations in front of the university gates. The altercation reportedly began over a disagreement regarding a freshers' party organized by the Department of Philosophy. The conflict soon drew in students from both Holland Hall and KPUC hostels, resulting in a physical altercation with the use of sticks, rods, and stones.

Violence and Chaos Erupt on Campus

The situation quickly worsened as groups of students from both hostels engaged in a violent brawl. One faction reportedly chased and attacked the other with sticks and rods, eventually leading to stone-pelting near the KP College Hostel (KPUC) gate. The unexpected intensity of the clash caused panic among students, staff, and passersby. Some bystanders were injured in the stone-pelting incident, along with multiple students who sustained injuries in the clash.

University Officials Take Immediate Action

In response to the violence, Chief Proctor Prof. Rakesh Singh immediately suspended four students from Holland Hall and PCB hostels for their alleged involvement in the violence. According to Prof. Singh, the conflict began around 10 AM and continued intermittently until 5 PM, during which students would become aggressive in front of the KP College Hostel, causing disruptions whenever campus guards left the area. The proctor confirmed that police were present throughout the day, observing the escalating unrest.

Entry Ban on Involved Students

Prof. Singh further stated that students were seen carrying sticks and rods, which caused distress and fear among other, non-involved students. As a disciplinary measure, the university has banned the four accused students from entering the campus with immediate effect.
