Allahabad University Struggles to Fill UG Seats: 40-50% Still Vacant in Affiliated Colleges

Admission Process Continues at Allahabad University, Classes Begin Despite Vacant Seats

University Classes Begin Despite Vacant Seats

Prayagraj: The admission process for undergraduate first-year students at Allahabad University and its constituent colleges has been ongoing for the past month. Despite significant progress in filling seats at the university level, the situation at affiliated colleges remains concerning, particularly in Bachelor of Arts (BA) programs. Even with the admission process still open, a large number of seats remain vacant in these institutions.

80% Seats Filled at University, Colleges Lag Behind

At Allahabad University, which offers 18,000 undergraduate seats in total, around 80% of seats have already been filled. However, constituent colleges are facing difficulty in filling their seats. Even after allowing admissions for non-CUET (Common University Entrance Test) candidates, the colleges are still grappling with low enrollment, with 40% to 50% of seats remaining vacant.

BA Program Faces the Most Difficulty

The BA program, in particular, is witnessing the worst enrollment numbers. Colleges have been struggling to attract students for this course, leaving a significant number of seats unoccupied. This situation is surprising, as BA traditionally attracts a large number of students.

Admission Process Extended, Classes Already Begun

In light of the vacant seats, Allahabad University has decided to keep the admission process open for some more time to allow more students to enroll. However, academic classes have already begun as of September 30, creating a peculiar situation where seats are still open while the academic year is underway.

The university administration is making efforts to address the issue by promoting admissions further, hoping to see more students enrolling in the coming weeks.
