University of Allahabad Celebrates 138 Years of Establishment, Strides in Faculty Recruitment and Academic Growth

On September 23, the University of Allahabad (AU) will celebrate 138 years since its establishment. Starting with just 13 students as Muir College, the institution once earned the title of “Oxford of the East” The university has grown into a renowned institution, with a rich history that continues to inspire.

Under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. Sangita Srivastava, the university has been working towards improving the student-teacher ratio. So far, 352 new faculty members have been appointed across 33 departments, with professors from prestigious institutions like JNU, BHU, and IITs joining the teaching staff. Efforts are being made to provide them with the best facilities to foster research development.

On August 8, the Ministry released the NIRF rankings, where AU did not make it to the top 200 universities list. However, for the first time, its engineering and management institutions received recognition. The university’s JK Institute of Technology made it to the top 200 technical institutes in the country, and MONIRBA, its management institute, was listed among the top 125 management institutes. This is seen as a positive sign for the university’s future growth.
