Internship Opportunity at PRS Legislative Research: Apply for October 2024 Intake

PRS Legislative Research, a New Delhi-based organization that provides non-partisan analysis of legislation and policy for Members of Parliament (MPs), is currently accepting applications for its internship program starting in October 2024. This program offers a unique opportunity for individuals interested in understanding the workings of Parliament and the legislative process in India.


Location and Structure

This is a physical, in-office internship where selected interns will be required to report to the office located at PRS Legislative Research, 3rd Floor, Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, 212, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg, New Delhi – 110002. The internship is designed to immerse participants in the environment of legislative research, policy analysis, and the intricacies of parliamentary procedures.


Roles and Responsibilities

Interns at PRS Legislative Research will be expected to undertake a variety of roles and responsibilities aimed at enhancing their understanding of India's legislative process. These include:


- Research and Analysis: Interns will conduct in-depth research on various legislative proposals, policies, and parliamentary proceedings. This involves gathering data, reviewing relevant literature, and analyzing the implications of proposed laws.


- Drafting Reports: Interns will be responsible for drafting detailed reports, briefings, and summaries on legislative matters. These documents will serve as essential tools for MPs and other stakeholders in understanding the nuances of different policies and legislative actions.

- Monitoring Parliamentary Activities: Interns will monitor ongoing parliamentary sessions, committee meetings, and other legislative activities. They will track the progress of bills, debates, and other significant developments, providing timely updates and insights.


- Assisting in Event Coordination: From time to time, interns may be required to assist in organizing and coordinating events, workshops, or discussions related to legislative and policy issues. This includes logistical support, preparing materials, and facilitating smooth operations.


- Engagement with MPs and Policy Experts: Interns may have the opportunity to engage with MPs, policy experts, and other stakeholders, contributing to discussions and offering their research insights.


Expectations from Interns

PRS Legislative Research is looking for interns who possess a strong interest in parliamentary processes and legislation in India. In addition to this, the following skills and qualities are highly valued:


- Strong Writing Skills: Interns are expected to demonstrate exceptional writing capabilities, as they will be involved in drafting reports, briefings, and summaries on various legislative and policy issues.

 

- Strong Analytical Skills: The internship will require participants to critically analyze legislative documents, policies, and data. Therefore, candidates should exhibit strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.


Stipend and Accommodation

Prospective interns should note that this is an unpaid internship. PRS does not offer any remuneration or accommodation for interns. Applicants are advised to make their own arrangements for lodging and other personal expenses during the internship period.

The last date to submit applications for this internship is 20th September 2024. PRS is only accepting applications for internships beginning in October 2024.

3. Writing Sample: Applicants must also submit a writing sample on any policy issue. The writing sample should not exceed 1000 words and must be uploaded in PDF format. This sample will be used to assess the applicant's ability to analyze and articulate complex policy matters.
