 Gautam Buddha University Hosts 3rd P.N. Mathur Memorial National Moot Court Competition

The School of Law, Justice & Governance at Gautam Buddha University is set to host the 3rd P.N. Mathur Memorial National Moot Court Competition on the 14th and 15th of September 2024. This event honors the legacy of Shri Prem Narain Mathur, a distinguished lawyer and social reformer

School of Law, Justice & Governance

The School of Law, Justice & Governance, established in 2011, focuses on advancing learning, teaching, and research in law, justice, and governance. The School offers a Five-year Integrated BA.LLB, One-year LL.M., and Ph.D. programs. Emphasizing clinical legal education, the School encourages students to participate in moot court practices, debates, essay writing, and project work to build their confidence and proficiency in handling future legal challenges.


Honoring Shri Prem Narain Mathur

Shri Prem Narain Mathur, in whose honor the competition is named, was a renowned lawyer born in 1898 in Nagina, Uttar Pradesh. He chose to practice law in his hometown, dedicating his life to the development and upliftment of underprivileged communities. Known for his expertise in civil cases, Mathur was instrumental in promoting girls' education and contributed significantly to art, culture, and sports in his community. His humanitarian efforts during the partition of India in 1947, where he provided shelter and support to refugees, further exemplify his commitment to social welfare.


Competition Details

The moot court competition will span two days, featuring multiple rounds:

- Inaugural Ceremony: 14th September 2024

- Preliminary Round: 14th September 2024

- Quarter-Final Round: 14th September 2024

- Semi-Finals and Final Round: 15th September 2024

- Valedictory Ceremony: 15th September 2024


Awards and Prizes

Participants in the competition will have the opportunity to win substantial prizes:

- Winners: INR 40,000 cash prize, trophy, one-year subscription to SCC Online worth INR 81,000, and Certificate of Excellence.

- Runners-Up: INR 30,000 cash prize, trophy, one-year subscription to EBC Learning worth INR 43,500, and Certificate of Excellence.

- Best Speaker: INR 7,000 cash prize, trophy, and Certificate of Excellence.

- Best Memorial: INR 7,000 cash prize, trophy, and Certificate of Excellence.

- All Participants: One-month access to SCC Online Web Edition.
