University of Allahabad Implements Strict Attendance Policy: 75% Attendance Now Mandatory

In a recent decision by the Academic Council of the University of Allahabad, it has been mandated that a minimum of 75% attendance will be compulsory for all students starting from the current academic session. This new regulation will be strictly enforced across all departments and institutes affiliated with the University.

The decision comes in response to concerns about irregular attendance among students, which was affecting their academic performance and engagement. The Academic Council emphasized the importance of consistent attendance for maintaining academic standards and ensuring that students receive the full benefit of their educational programs.

Part of Ordinance which mandates the compulsory 75% attendance compulsory.

The regulation is part of the University's implementation of the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) for its academic programs, which includes degree, diploma, and certificate courses. The new rule aligns with the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines, which also mandate a minimum of 75% attendance for students to be eligible to appear for examinations.

Each semester is designed to have approximately 90 teaching days, excluding examination periods. To qualify for the end-semester examinations, students must have at least 75% attendance in each paper or course individually. However, if a student fails to meet this requirement due to unavoidable circumstances such as illness, attendance up to 20% may be condoned. This condonation is at the discretion of the Dean or Head of the Department (HOD), provided that the student submits valid medical documents or other justifiable grounds as proof.

The policy has been framed under Clauses 1(a)(i) and 3(a)(x) of Ordinance LX, which pertains to the organization and conduct of examinations. The amendments made in 2024 underscore the University's commitment to enhancing the quality of education and academic discipline.

Students and faculty members have been informed of the new regulations, and the University has put measures in place to monitor attendance records rigorously. Non-compliance with the attendance requirement may result in students being barred from appearing for their examinations, thereby impacting their academic progress.

The University of Allahabad urges all students to adhere to these regulations and take full advantage of the educational opportunities available to them. The administration believes that regular attendance is crucial for holistic learning and academic success.
