CUET UG 2024: DU, JNU Plan Extra Classes in Evening, Weekends, Cut Holidays As CUET-UG Result Delayed

Lakhs of candidates are waiting for the National Testing Agency (NTA) to announce the final answer key and results of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for UG courses. On Sunday, NTA announced that it will conduct a re-test for the affected candidates on July 19, and the admit cards for the same were released today. Therefore, we can expect NTA to declare the CUET UG 2024 results by the end of July.

Due to delays in the CUET UG 2024 results, Delhi University (DU) and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) are planning to conduct extra classes to accommodate the late admissions. These delays have impacted the academic calendar, prompting the universities to take measures to ensure that incoming students do not fall behind. The additional classes aim to help new students catch up on missed coursework and integrate smoothly into the academic environment despite the postponed start.

The delay in the announcement of CUET UG 2024 results has caused a delay in the admission process at several universities. A total of 261 universities will accept CUET UG 2024 scores. Both Delhi University and Jawaharlal Nehru University are part of this list, with DU offering around 71,000 seats.

Recent reports suggest that both universities plan to hold weekend classes and might have a shorter winter break in view of the delayed admissions. A senior official of JNU mentioned that the delay in the declaration of results will impact the university’s plan to release a unified academic calendar for all batches, as reported.

Press further added that JNU is planning to rely on extra classes on Saturdays and may have to shorten its winter break to cover up for lost time to complete the syllabus.

Officials at Delhi University have said that the delay will cause the academic calendar for first-year students to end later than scheduled. However, the schedule for the rest of the students will remain as usual, with their classes beginning on August 1, according to Delhi University’s registrar Vikas Gupta, as reported.

Similarly, Ambedkar University is also planning to hold extra classes in the evenings and on weekends and will have fewer holidays to make up for the delay if required, Vice Chancellor Anu Singh Lather has said, as reported.

DU EXTENDS ACADEMIC CALENDAR FOR FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS

Officials at Delhi University noted that the delay would extend the academic calendar for first-year students beyond the original schedule. However, the schedule for other students remains unchanged, with classes set to commence on August 1, according to DU Registrar Vikas Gupta.

Earlier last week, DU announced its academic calendar for second-year students, featuring a shortened winter break of four days. The university did not provide a reason for this adjustment.

Meanwhile, an official from IP University stated that the delay in CUET results would not impact its admission process, as IP University concludes admissions during the final phase of CUET and anticipates that results will be available by then.

Jamia Millia Islamia, which also uses CUET for UG admissions in some courses, did not immediately respond to queries on this matter. Delhi University and Ambedkar University exclusively rely on CUET scores for admissions into both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

In contrast, universities such as JNU, Jamia, and IP University either accept CUET scores for specific courses or maintain their own entrance examination systems.

Extra Classes In The Evening Weekends

Ambedkar University also plans on taking extra classes in the evening and weekends, and have fewer holidays to cover up for the delay if required, Vice Chancellor Anu Singh Lather said.

"There would be a delay of about two weeks or so due to the re-test. I don't think that is much of a time and can easily be compensated with some extra classes.

"Originally, the session was supposed to start from August 1 for first-year students, but if the results are not announced in the next two weeks, we will hold extra classes for them in the evening after regular classes on weekends and also reduce the number of holidays to cover up," Lather said.

Classes for rest of the students will start as per the scheduled date, she said.

At Delhi University, officials said the delay would cause the academic calendar of first-year students to end at a later date than scheduled.

The schedule for the rest of the students will remain as usual with their classes scheduled to begin from August 1, DU's registrar Vikas Gupta said.

Earlier last week, DU notified its academic calendar for second-year students with a shortened winter break of four days. The varsity did not mention the reason behind shorter winter break.

Meanwhile, an official at IP University said the delay wouldn't affect its admission process as it takes admissions through CUET in its last leg and hopes the results will be out by then.

Statement Of Mahesh Verma, Vice Chancellor Of IP University

Mahesh Verma, Vice Chancellor of IP University, said, "We take admissions through national level entrance test for professional courses. We also have our own in-house entrance examination. After admissions through these mediums are completed we fill the remaining seats through CUET. By that time, the CUET scores would be out, so our admissions wouldn't be affected," he said.

There was no immediate response on this from Jamia Millia Islamia which also takes UG admissions through CUET for some of its courses.

While DU and Ambedkar University relies fully on CUET scores to take admissions into its undergraduate and postgraduate courses, universities like JNU, Jamia, and IP University either accept the scores for selected courses or have their own entrance system.

CUET UG 2024 Result when?

As the National Testing Agency has scheduled a retest for the affected candidates on July 19, it is expected that the CUET UG 2024 result, along with the final answer key, will be released in the last week of July or the first week of August. The agency will soon release the official result date and time.

Over 13 lakh students appeared for the CUET UG 2024 examination. NTA conducted the examination on May 15, 16, 17, 18, 21, 22, 24, and 29, 2024. The examination was held in both computer-based-test and pen-and-paper modes. For the 15 subjects with the highest registration, the exam was held in pen-and-paper format, and for the rest, it was held in computer-based-test format.
