Consecutive Failure in single Semester Examinations Will Lead to Course Termination: AU's Decision to Impact LLB, BALLB, BTech, and Other Semester Courses

Allahabad University has implemented a series of rigorous changes to its Credit Based Choice System (CBCS) regulations, focusing on enhancing academic standards and ensuring timely graduation. The revised rules, endorsed by the University's Examination Committee, Academic Council, and Executive Council, include a new policy where students will face termination from their courses if they fail to pass semester examinations for two consecutive years.

Course Termination for Consecutive Failures:

Under these new regulations, students who fail in their semester courses for two consecutive years will be expelled from their academic programs. This policy addresses issues observed in various programs, particularly in B.Tech courses, where students sometimes remained in the system until the final semester without passing earlier exams. The university aims to prevent such scenarios by enforcing stricter academic requirements, thereby encouraging students to achieve consistent academic success.

Revised Marks Calculation and Evaluation Process:

The regulation changes also include a revision in the calculation of marks. Previously, marks were derived by multiplying the CGPA by 9.5. The new system increases this multiplier to 10, which may benefit students by providing a higher percentage equivalent. Additionally, the evaluation process has been made more flexible. Unlike before, where the paper setter was solely responsible for evaluating answer sheets, the new rules allow for the involvement of additional examiners, especially in cases where there are a large number of answer sheets to assess.

Impact on Various Courses:

These revised regulations will apply to all regular mode degree, diploma, and certificate courses offered by the university, including programs like BALLB, LLB, MSc, MA, and BTech. The changes are particularly relevant for programs with high student enrollment and varied academic performance, ensuring that students who struggle to meet academic standards do not continue indefinitely without appropriate intervention.

The new CBCS regulations are intended to create a more rigorous and transparent academic environment at Allahabad University. Examination Controller AK Kanaujia has confirmed that the detailed revised regulations have been uploaded on the university's official website, making them accessible to all students and faculty members for reference and compliance.

These policies have been framed under Clauses 1(a)(i) and 3(a)(x) of Ordinance LX, which pertains to the organization and conduct of examinations. The amendments made in 2024 underscore the University's commitment to enhancing the quality of education and academic discipline.
