UP Civil Judge Exam: UPPSC Probes Tampering Allegations in Answer Sheets

The proceedings in the Allahabad High Court regarding the alleged tampering of answer sheets in the UP Judicial Service Civil Judge (Junior Division) (Mains) Examination, 2022, have shed light on a complex investigation undertaken by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC). The court session, sparked by a candidate's plea, specifically Shravan Pandey, who raised concerns over discrepancies in the English and Hindi papers disclosed to him under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, unfolded with notable revelations.

Detailed Investigation into Alleged Paper Exchanges by UPPSC

Advocate Nisheeth Yadav, representing the UPPSC, provided insights into the meticulous process of maintaining candidate anonymity through the assignment of pseudo codes to answer sheets. He explained that the true identities of candidates are unveiled only through decryption. Yadav proposed the theory of inadvertent paper exchanges among candidates, prompting a sweeping review of all 18,042 answer sheets submitted by 3,019 candidates. Amidst this investigation, the UPPSC assured the court that upon completion, all answer sheets would be presented along with a comprehensive report detailing the findings.

Judicial Oversight: Court Sets Next Hearing Date Amidst UPPSC's Transparency Pledge

Moreover, the UPPSC committed to preserving all records related to the judicial examination until the resolution of the ongoing case, assuring the court of their dedication to transparency and accountability. In light of these developments, the court scheduled the next hearing for July 1, emphasizing the importance of rectifying any errors and presenting all answer sheets for thorough examination.

Shravan Pandey's journey began with his participation in the judicial examination in May 2023. However, his dissatisfaction with the marks awarded led him to file an RTI request in January 2024. The subsequent revelation of irregularities in his answer sheets prompted him to seek recourse in the High Court. Advocates Vibhu Rai and Dhananjai Rai stood as pillars of support for Pandey throughout these legal proceedings, while Advocate Nisheeth Yadav remained steadfast in representing the UPPSC's interests.
