NEET-UG 2024 Controversy: NTA Withdraws Grace Marks Decision Amid Protests

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has withdrawn its decision to award grace marks to 1,563 candidates of the NEET-UG 2024 exam, the Centre informed the Supreme Court on June 13. This decision was originally made to compensate for delays in starting the examination at certain centers. Instead, the affected candidates will have the opportunity to retake the exam on June 23, with the results to be declared on June 30. The results of the initial exam on May 5 will be discarded for these students, and no compensatory marks will be awarded in the re-examination.

This decision came amidst growing protests and legal challenges. On June 10, numerous students gathered in Delhi to demand an investigation into alleged irregularities, including question paper leaks and the controversial grant of grace marks. Notably, student organizations such as the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) have been prominent in these protests.
