Former President of Allahabad University Students' Union and BJYM Vice-president Rohit Mishra Attacked in Prayagraj

Rohit Mishra, the state vice-president of BJP's Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) and former president of the Allahabad University Students' Union, was brutally attacked late Thursday night. Mishra was assaulted by a group of young men who arrived in a white Safari SUV. The attackers chased and beat him with kicks and punches and also used sharp weapons in the assault. They even attempted to run him over with the SUV and tried to kidnap him by dragging him into their car.

The incident occurred at 1:15 AM in the upscale Balrampur House Colony of Prayagraj and was captured on CCTV. The Colonelganj police have registered a case and begun investigating the suspects. Mishra, who served as the student union president in 2016, provided a statement to the police detailing the attack.

Assault Incident: Mishra's Harrowing Experience and Near-Escape

According to Mishra's complaint, he was out for a walk after dinner when the assailants in the Safari tried to run him over. The vehicle bore the registration number HR 26 ET 0813. Mishra managed to escape initially but was pursued by one of the attackers, while another retrieved a sharp weapon from the car and attacked him with the intent to kill. Mishra sustained a head injury and started bleeding. Despite falling to the ground, the attackers continued to beat him.

Post-Assault Developments: FIR Lodged and Investigation Initiated

After regaining consciousness, Mishra discovered that his chain and wallet, containing 2200 rupees, were missing. He has lodged an FIR against unidentified individuals for attempted murder under Section 307 of the IPC, based on his complaint. Inspector Pradeep Kumar Singh of Colonelganj Police Station stated that Mishra could not identify the attackers, and efforts are underway to identify them through CCTV footage. The SUV's registration number is being traced, and preliminary investigations suggest that the attack might have stemmed from a dispute involving the SUV.

Rohit Mishra hails from Senani Nagar, Karanpur in Pratapgarh. He has been an influential student leader, previously serving as the national secretary of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and was appointed as the state vice-president of BJP's Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha in August 2021.
