About the Competition

1. Inaugural Competition: Justice V. R. Krishna Iyer Memorial National Article Writing Competition, 2024.

2. Host: Organized by the Justice V. R. Krishna Iyer Chair on Human Rights at the School of Legal Studies, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kerala.

3. Purpose: Promoting intellectual engagement and advocacy for human rights.

4. Target Audience: LLB and LLM students encouraged to participate.

5. Focus: Delving into critical human rights issues through thoughtful articles.

6. Legacy: Commemorating Justice V. R. Krishna Iyer's legacy in human rights advocacy.

7. Goals: Instilling commitment to justice, liberty, equality, and empathy among future legal practitioners.

8. Themes: Participants to explore legal doctrines, contemporary challenges, and innovative approaches.

9. Impact: Fostering nuanced discourse for modernization of human rights law framework in India.

Eligibility

All students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in law (both three-year L.L.B. course &

five-year L.L.B. course) and LL.M from any law college/school/university in India are

eligible to participate in this competition.

Prizes

The winners of the competition will be awarded the following prizes:

• First Prize: Rs. 10000 + Medal + Certificate

• Second Price: Rs. 5000 + Medal + Certificate

• Third Prize: Rs. 2500 + Medal + Certificate.

1. Winners' Opportunity: First, second, and third prize winners eligible for six-month online Research Internship at Justice V. R. Krishna Iyer Chair under guidance of Chair Professor, Justice (Rtd.) K. M. Joseph.

2. Top 15 Authors: Top 15 article authors offered two-month online Research Intern Position at Justice V. R. Krishna Iyer Chair.

3. Guidance: Internship supervised by Chair Professor, Justice (Rtd.) K. M. Joseph, Former Judge, Supreme Court of India.

4. Publication: Selected entries to be published as chapters in an ISBN-numbered edited book.

Submission Guidelines

• No Co-authorship is allowed

• One author can submit only one entry

• All submissions must have an appropriate article title which is different from the theme.

• The maximum word limit of the article must be 3500 - 4500 words, excluding footnotes.

• The Article should contain an abstract of 250 words with Five Keywords

• Font and size: Times New Roman, size 12 (for main text). Times New Roman, size 10 (for footnotes).

• Size and alignment: A4 size, with 2.54 cm margin (normal margin).

• All headings must follow the format of first letter caps (e.g. History of Human Rights in India)

• All text should be justified.

• The paper must be accompanied by a cover page containing details such as the Title of the Paper, Theme of the Paper, Name of the Author, University/ Institution/ Organization, Email Address and Mobile Number.

• Footnoting: OSCOLA 4th Edition

• All articles must be original and unpublished work of the author(s) and should not have been submitted for publication/published elsewhere in any form.

• All articles must be plagiarism-free; however, similarity up to 15% with proper footnoting and AI content up to 5% is allowed.

* Submissions which does not adhere to the guidelines will be summarily rejected.
